The Wright-Dalton Store, operating from 1885, represented a key transitional partnership in Poplar Bluff's commercial history. James L. Dalton came to Poplar Bluff to co-manage a hardware store with the Wright family, which expanded into general merchandise and eventually led to the later Wright-Dalton-Bell-Anchor operations.
This partnership laid the groundwork for what would become one of downtown's major department store operations.
