A Visit With A Local Author and His Wife

We were greatly honored today to visit with local author John R. Stanard and his wife, Rose Anne. John wrote the two beautiful volumes of Butler County: A Pictorial History. They welcomed us into their home and around their table as we talked about the history of Poplar Bluff and shared ideas on how to preserve it and share it with the community.

We shared some of our thoughts and future project ideas, and they were kind enough to answer questions and offer perspective from their years of research. While our Historic Poplar Bluff projects are our own and are not officially affiliated with or endorsed by the Stanards, we are very grateful for their time and for the opportunity to learn from them.

Their stories and knowledge of the area are a priceless resource as we continue building an interactive way to remember these many sites and the people who brought them to life. And a special highlight of the day: we were able to have our copy of the book signed by this accomplished author!
