400 S. Main Street

Historic railroad depot built in 1910 with a notable cast concrete staircase, now serving as a railroad museum.

Did You Know?

The depot features a unique cast concrete staircase because it sits below street level, an unusual architectural solution for the era.

The Story

The St. Louis, Iron Mountain & Southern Railroad Depot was built in 1910, replacing an earlier depot structure. The building served both passenger and freight functions during the height of railroad activity in Poplar Bluff.

One of the depot's most distinctive features is its notable cast concrete staircase, which was necessary because the depot sits below street level. This architectural detail remains a unique characteristic of the building.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 1, 1994, the depot has been preserved and now houses a railroad museum, celebrating Poplar Bluff's important railroad heritage.
